Research on Global Electricity Development Index

Electricity plays a pivotal role in economic development and holds a central position within the global energy landscape. Transitioning towards green and low-carbon electricity is crucial for advancing the broader energy transition agenda. Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) proposes the concept of Global Electricity Development Index (GEDI), to achieve a scientifically rigorous assessment of electricity development across diverse regions and countries worldwide. This index has the potential to catalyze technological innovation within the electricity sector, stimulate investment in electricity infrastructure, and foster international energy cooperation.

GEDI is a comprehensive index featuring a two-tier, four-dimensional evaluation framework for assessing global electricity development. It covers primary indicators across four key dimensions: supply security, consumer services, green and low-carbon development, and technological innovation. Additionally, it includes 20 secondary indicators within these dimensions. The report details evaluation principles, the index framework, criteria for indicator selection, and methodologies for calculation. It provides electricity development index calculations and rankings for 100 representative countries across different continents, offering an overview and analytical insights into these rankings.
